Life at The Hospice
Life at Rosie’s Hospice of Compassion is shaped by a natural rhythm of care, connection and quiet joy.
Each day is centred around meeting the individual needs of the animals, while also allowing space for exploration, enrichment and simply being. Every animal moves at their own pace, supported to live in a way that feels safe and natural for them.

Daily Life at The Hospice
Days are filled with simple moments, time in the garden, shared spaces, rest, nourishment and companionship. There is no rush here, only a steady rhythm of care.

Enrichment, Training & Fun
Chickens are so incredibly smart — they honestly blow my mind. Training time with them is one of my favourite parts of the day.
Alongside rest and care, there are lots of opportunities for enrichment, learning and play. Gentle training and interaction help build confidence and connection, and it’s always amazing to see their personalities come through. There’s so much curiosity, humour and joy in these moments.
Outings & Adventures
Some residents also enjoy outings and little adventures, experiencing new environments in a way that feels safe and supported. These moments can be really enriching and stimulating, giving them a chance to explore the world beyond the hospice.
It also gives people the opportunity to meet the chickens and they really are their own best advocates. Once people meet them as individuals, everything changes.

Short Stay & Rehoming
Not all who come to the hospice stay for life. Some arrive needing a little extra care, time and support before they are ready to move on to their forever homes.
Christina came to the hospice to heal from injuries, taking the time she needed to recover in a safe and supported environment. Zoomzy was found abandoned on a golf course and came here to learn some fun tricks to help him stand out — there are so many roosters looking for homes, and he deserved the best chance at finding his own.
Each journey is different, but always guided by what feels right for the individual, with the hope of giving every animal the best possible life beyond the hospice.

The Care Behind the Scenes
Behind the quiet moments of the hospice is a great deal of daily care and dedication. Spaces are cleaned and refreshed, bedding is changed, meals are prepared and individual needs are attended to throughout the day.
The hospice is run solely by Nicole, who balances this work alongside her dog training business, which helps support the ongoing care of the animals. At times, the hospice is also supported by kind donations from those who connect with its work.

End of Life & Remembrance
The hospice also holds a very special space for end-of-life care. When an animal’s journey is coming to a close, they are supported with comfort, dignity and love — never alone.
Those who pass are deeply honoured and remembered. Their lives are reflected in the gardens, in art, and in quiet daily moments of meditation and connection.
The presence of my soul family never leaves here. They remain part of this place — a gentle, guiding presence that continues to watch over the hospice and all who live within it.
