Chicken Training
Chickens are incredibly intelligent animals, bursting with problem-solving skills and fascinating social interactions! Their knack for communication makes them perfect candidates for gentle, reward-based training. At our Hospice, we train our chickens for all sorts of exciting reasons—whether it's helping them recover from injuries through physical therapy or keeping their minds sharp during isolation. Plus, this training is a fantastic way to calm and manage roosters, and it’s an absolute blast for everyone involved!
Welcome to the heartwarming story of Bigs, our beloved broiler hen who joined us at the Hospice at just two weeks old. From a young age, she showcased her remarkable ability to recognize faces, bringing joy to everyone around her. Bigs thrives on training games, making every moment spent with her a delightful experience. Join us in celebrating this clever and gorgeous girl who fills our days with fun and admiration.
We rescued Zooms after he was abandoned on a suburban golf course. At first, he was fearful of humans needed to be quarantined from the rest of the Hospice gang for their safety. During this time, Nicole worked with Zoomzy to help him build confidence and learn some fun tricks. This allowed us to show off his personality and as a result Zoomzy, was adopted into wonderful home where he continues to thrive.
Meet Tilt, the most dashing rooster boy with a heart full of music! Despite facing a neck weakness that caused sinus troubles, we were determined to help him shine. He took to the keyboard for his physical therapy to encourage him to hold his head up and strengthen neck muscled. Before we knew it, he became the incredible Music Man, joyfully playing duets with his friends and filling the air with his original melodies. What an inspiring journey of health and happiness!
Chickens are often underestimated, but this heartwarming video featuring Chi and Morris proves just how intelligent they can be. After just 10 minutes of training, these rescued meat chickens showcased their remarkable ability to recognize their names on paper. It's a beautiful reminder that every animal has its own unique capabilities and deserves our respect and care. Let's celebrate the intelligence of these amazing creatures!
Gentle read - based training is also helpful in teaching the chickens to wear diapers. Here is young Rooster boy Chi modelling his first nappy.
